  • Sujit Dey, Professor of Electrical Engineering

Executive Director

UC San Diego’s Jacobs School of Engineering and Rady School of Management have joined forces to create the Institute for the Global Entrepreneur to inspire and prepare engineers to be entrepreneurial leaders and translate technology innovations to market. The Institute for the Global Entrepreneur (IGE) delivers a unique blend of education, mentorship, and real-world entrepreneurial experience by merging a proven business curriculum with a technology acceleration environment that leverages UC San Diego’s research strengths - transforming discoveries into market impact. IGE provides programs, including the IGE Technology Management Certificate Program, which allows students to build their business acumen, venture ideas, career preparedness, and leadership abilities. One of the first in the country, IGE’s NSF I-Corps™ program guides startups through product development, market validation, and seed funding. Workshops are held on campus and virtually in association with the Desert-Pacific Hub. The Institute also hosts accelerators and workshops in the field of Medical Technology. Created by industry experts, the MedTech Accelerator Stage One Bootcamp offers startups insight into taking an idea from concept to market, including the regulatory process and go-to-market strategy. An overarching component in IGE’s offerings is the consistent support and guidance provided by seasoned industry mentors, enabling students/researchers to gain first-hand knowledge and access to broader networks. MedTech Accelerator Stage Two pairs the startup with an executive mentor who guides the business model development and execution. Additionally, to raise a global impact, the Institute provides entrepreneurism and innovation training for several global strategic partners in Japan and Korea through our Global Innovation Programs. IGE supplements these efforts by partnering with regional incubators, industry, and the venture community to ensure exciting discoveries get transferred to the marketplace.
