IEM in the News
Congratulations to IEM Member Dr. Darryl D’Lima on $12.7 Million Research Grant Award!
We are thrilled to congratulate IEM member Dr. Darryl D’Lima on being awarded a $12.7 million grant from the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM). This significant funding award will support a new, multi-year research initiative led by Dr. D’Lima and his team at the Shiley Center for Orthopaedic Research and Education (SCORE) at Scripps Clinic.
The research focuses on a pioneering “scaffold-free” tissue engineering technique designed to repair severe knee injuries. By creating engineered cartilage and bone from mesenchymal stem cells, the team aims to develop a biological solution that could eventually reduce or eliminate the need for traditional, invasive joint replacement surgeries.
Dr. D’Lima is a valued member of the IEM community and is an active collaborator with several of the IEM Centers’ faculty on various multi-year projects. His work continues to bridge the gap between engineering and regenerative medicine, and we look forward to seeing the impact of this promising new research.
Congratulations, Dr. D’Lima!
