CMSA Mission Statement

The Human Performance Institute (HPI), a center under the Institute of Engineering in Medicine (IEM), will foster new collaborations between UCSD research faculty, neighboring institutes, industry, and athletes focusing on the integration of engineering principles and technology with elite human performance. The HPI will work closely with the Triton Athletics program to develop and apply novel approaches to improve our understanding of training, performance, and recovery using quantitative tools such as biomedical imaging, genetic, and epigenetic engineering, molecular, cellular, and tissue engineering, advanced biomaterials and nanobiotechnology, systems biology and medicine, and medical devices to advance prevention, early detection, diagnosis, and treatment of injury and to maximize performance.
