IEM Remembers Duane Roth's Contributions to Engineering and Medicine

October 25, 2013

Duane Roth left behind a legacy. He made remarkable contributions to many organizations he touched, and the Institute of Engineering in Medicine is grateful to be counted among them.

Duane Roth's passing was followed by countless stories from people and organizations remembering his wonderful contributions to San Diego and technology entrepreneurship. In his role as CEO of CONNECT, a not-for-profit organization that catalyzes technology ventures, Mr. Roth spun the organization out of UC San Diego and grew it to have a greater impact on San Diego's economy and entrepreneurial community. Roth also served as Vice Chairman of the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine (CIRM) and helped lobby for a $3 billion state funded initiative for stem cell research.

Mr. Roth made a lasting impact on the Institute of Engineering in Medicine, serving as a dedicated member of the IEM Advisory Committee and providing valuable guidance, advice, and inspiration throughout the years since IEM’s inception. His contributions to engineering and medicine will be remembered and his legacy will go on through the people and organizations he influenced so greatly.
