Bose and IEM hold Technology Forum

February 14, 2014

On January 22, 2014, Bose Corporation and the Institute of Engineering in Medicine (IEM) jointly held a one-day technology forum at UC San Diego featuring speakers and participants from both industry and academia. The intent of the forum is to develop collaborations between Bose and UCSD faculty and students to foster innovation and facilitate the translation of research to industry.

Dr. Peter Chen Sound Link Giveaway
Sunu Narayanan from Bose presents Dr. Peter Chen with a Bose SoundLink at the event.

Known for their industry pioneering work in acoustics, Bose also applies their expertise in electromagnetic technologies to build instruments used for materials testing and durability simulation. Of particular interest to IEM researchers are the applications of Bose's ElectroForce Systems to tissue mechanics, testing and manipulation of biomaterials, medical device testing and more. The forum had an excellent program with presentations by UCSD faculty and Bose scientists. It served to increase testing awareness in research in the field of engineering in medicine by sharing Bose's insights from years of industry experience.

Bose was founded over 50 years ago by Dr. Amar Bose who was motivated to study and innovate in the field of acoustics after a disappointing experience with a home stereo system. The company remains privately held with over 10,000 employees and is unique in its commitment to research as it reinvests 100% of its profits into research. Bose has been an invaluable member of the IEM Industrial Advisory Board, helping IEM to achieve its mission of translating innovative research to clinical application and commercialization.

The IEM would like to thank Bose for their continued support as well as Dik Haz and Sunu Narayanan for their collaborative organization of the forum.

A copy of the program for the forum is included below:
